Staying Healthy in the Winter Months

Exercise Regularly

It’s important to keep your workout regimen up during the winter months. A recent study shows that even a moderate level of exercise has a long-term effect cumulative effect on the body’s immune response.

Get Enough Rest

No matter what time of year, a lack of sleep can have a serious effect on one’s immune system making you more vulnerable to catching colds and other illnesses. To maximize the benefits of sleep, try to go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends.

Wash Those Hands

Studies have shown, over and over again, that frequent hand washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick as well as prevent the spreading of germs that cause illness. Hand washing is even more important during the cold and flu season. Wet your hands and lather up with soap for at least 20 seconds to dislodge germs and rinse well under running water.

Eat Well

Eat properly, especially your fruits and vegetables. Vitamins and minerals found in these foods help your immune system work at its maximum capacity.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of liquids to remain properly hydrated.  While you might want that warm cup of coffee, drinks with caffeine tend to dehydrate us. Instead, drink things such as water, juice, and mild.

Get Your Flu Shot

While a flu shot may not totally protect you from getting the flu, they will help lessen its effects. Having a flu shot also protects those around you.

About

East Hill Family Medical, Inc. (East Hill) is located at 144 Genesee Street in the City of Auburn, New York. East Hill is licensed by the State of New York as a diagnostic and treatment center.
