Welcome Fall

As we enter the fall months, children head back to school, our routines change, and it seems that our schedules once again become a bit more hectic.  As we prepare to take on these busy few months, here are some things to consider.

Healthy Kids & Families

Keep those hands clean!  Regular hand washing can dramatically reduce the passing of respiratory and gastrointestinal illness. Get in the habit of washing up after school, before eating, and after playing.

Be active. Adults and children that engage in regular, moderate exercise tend to be healthier than those who do not. Getting up and moving is one of the best habits to develop early on.

Sleep matters. Parents and children need their rest. Follow a routine of getting to bed and time.  And, disengage from those electronics at least 30 minutes before going to bed.

Shots Matter

Everyone needs to protect their health by being immunized against infectious diseases.  From birth to adulthood, shots play an important role in keeping people healthy.  Shots (also known as immunizations or vaccinations) help prevent serious diseases like the measles, flu and tuberculosis (TB).  Talk to your primary health care provider to ensure that everyone in your family gets the shots they need including this year’s flu vaccine.

Bike Safety

  • Children & adults should wear a proper-fitting bicycle helmet.  Always!
  • Respect all traffic lights and directional signs
  • Know and obey the “rules of the road.”
  • Wear bright colored-clothing to increase one’s visibility.  At night, wear white, light-colored and reflective gear!

 Enjoy the fall!

About

East Hill Family Medical, Inc. (East Hill) is located at 144 Genesee Street in the City of Auburn, New York. East Hill is licensed by the State of New York as a diagnostic and treatment center. East Hill was incorporated in 1971. At that time, its corporate name was Cayuga County Family Planning Center, Inc. Over the past forty years, East Hill has evolved into one of the larger non hospital-based primary care facilities in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York and in 1994, it changed its name to East Hill to reflect its service location and broader mission as evidenced by its long history of providing primary care medical services to low-income, medically underserved individuals and families. East Hill continues to serve its original function and is the most widely recognized family planning service provider in a four county area (Cayuga, Wayne, Ontario, and Seneca). In 2008 East Hill was designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike and expanded its scope of services to behavioral health.
